Fado was born in the taverns of Lisbon, and this room brings it back to one. You sit a few steps from the singers with a glass of wine in your hand, close enough to see every emotion on their faces. The acoustics are perfect: the room was made for this music. And you will understand what you hear, because before each Fado the singers tell you, in Portuguese and in English, what the poem says.

An evening of Fado in the Baixa room
Our room is three minutes on foot from Praça do Comércio, on one of the straight streets the city rebuilt after the earthquake of 1755. That part of Lisbon is called the Baixa, and that is where the room gets its name. Inside, it’s made in the shape of the old taverns, with wine-red walls, guitars hanging in gilded frames and a small stage. It’s small enough that there isn’t a bad seat in it.
Here you’ll hear four of our passionate musicians: a woman and a man who take turns singing, a Portuguese guitar and a classical guitar behind them. They sing old traditional Fados and more recent ones, and you have a glass of Port, Moscatel or Portuguese wine while you listen.
It’s a concert and not a dinner show. No kitchen, no plates coming and going between songs, nothing pulling your attention away from the four musicians in front of you. For fifty minutes it’s pure Fado, and you feel it pass from the musicians to you.

“Experiencing traditional Portuguese FADO provides a depth and appreciation for Portugal’s relationship with the sea. Here they didn’t simply perform the music—they took the time to explain the meaning and history behind fado, as well as the stories and emotions behind several of the songs. […] The music was heartfelt, emotional, and absolutely beautiful. […] Wonderful music, warm atmosphere, and a little Portuguese history all wrapped into approximately an hour.”
Sharon Johnston · August 2026(opens the review on Google in a new tab)Google “Wonderful. I completely forgot the names of the performers and musicians but you can tell they really love what they do, especially the singers but the guitarists are very skilled as well. […] For the money, it was the best thing I spent money on during my trip for the value, I’d personally just come here and get dinner somewhere else, I’m sure the other places are good as well but I enjoyed the experience.”
Steven Penny · August 2026(opens the review on Google in a new tab)Google “Honestly I did not know what to expect by a Fado but it was a great performance by the singers and musicians. The price was small for the joy of listening to such great play.”

All the performers were excellent, and it was a very impressive and charming time. Fado is a brilliant art form. Loved it.”
